'Recovery UK: A false dawn or truly a new order?'
- Thursday 23 September 2010

The Royal Institution of Great Britain

A strange mood has swept across the UK. A new Government inherits troubled public sector finances but the national economy has begun to take its running shoes out of the hurt locker.

The cocktail of trends has never been more heady; so let us show you the route to market opportunity in these uncertain times. Welcome to ‘Recovery UK’ – where we ask whether we are seeing a false dawn or truly a new order?

The second of this year's trends summits from the Future Foundation captures all that is central and crucial. It will unravel the hidden movements re-shaping the political economy of the UK and re-configure your businesses chances for commercial gain therein.

PROGRAMME

During our time together, we will look to answer the following key questions:

  • Is the theme really one of Recovery? If so, how bumpy is the route ahead?
  • Can we expect a smooth acceleration away from recession and back into another Nice decade?
  • On balance what is the good as well as less good macro-economic news?
  • Given the Government’s core objectives for the economy, what impact will it have on consumer markets over the next five years?
  • What are the implications of the whole modern culture of control for brands?
  • How does the modern Briton chase a better style of life at the lowest price possible?
  • How will the flow of ever richer, real-time intelligence impact on their choice-making?
  • Should communication, marketing, product specialists adopt a different approach in light of this stream-lining?
  • How will global reach juxtapose with the elevation of “local” as a value within consumer experience, preference and choice?
  • In a golden age of multiple friendships and connections, what will be the nature, range and quality of networks surrounding us be as parents, shoppers, voters?
  • The co-op model – a worthy revival with sustainable consumer advantage or just a fleeting political manoeuvre?
  • How can brands and policy makers ensure that all opportunities are optimised in Recovery UK?
